STIMTEC is a hydraulic STIMulation experiment with periodic pumping intervals in crystalline rock under controlled conditions in an abandoned silver mine in Freiberg, Germany. By using high-resolution seismic monitoring, the goal is to investigate and improve both these real-time monitoring TEChnologies and prediction models for fluid flow in crystalline rock.

Several research institutes, like TU Bergakademie Freiberg, Ruhr-Uni-Bochum, GFZ in Potsdam or LIAG in Leibniz as well as industrial companies are involoved in the project.

ASIR was asked to provide a 6-channel Fullband sonde (AFB4.5) to complement the accoustic emission sensor network that was implemented. That way, we were able to cover the full seismic spectrum, especially the lower end of the frequencies.
